ANNUAL DOWNTOWN ZYDECO BREAKFAST SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 3
(Opelousas, LA) - The City of Opelousas and Opelousas Main Street, Inc. team up to host the 9th annual Zydeco Breakfast on Saturday, September 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. under the oak trees surrounding the historical St. Landry Parish Courthouse. This year festival goers and music lovers will experience a blend of contemporary Zydeco and traditional Creole sounds as Same Ol 2 Step featuring Lil Wayne Singleton are scheduled to perform. Lil' Wayne and Same Ol 2 Step, are a high-energy band which produces both old- and new-style Zydeco with a distinct way of blending the two. Leader of the band Wayne Singleton is a young but very knowledgeable musician who cut his teeth with Beau Jacques, Keith Frank and Zydeco Force. Although some artists are pushing zydeco to its progressive left; Lil Wayne and Same Ol Two Step keep it firmly based in the Lawtell – Opelousas style where it once sprouted. The bands consistant and more traditionally bed rocked style of zydeco is up-tempo and performed with an exuberance that is sure to make you dance. Every member of the group brings experience and enthusiasm to playing Zydeco Music. The lead vocalist, accordionist, and leader of the band Wayne Singleton at the young age of 30 has been involved with zydeco music since the age of seven. Korwin Jean also known as "Scooter," and Isiah Savoy share responsibilities as rhythm guitarist and vocalist. Korwin has a great deal of knowledge about music and is currently a band director at a local high school. Donnie Broussard, drummer, is a young musician eager to learn. He has played with a few other local bands before landing a spot with this band. Shawn Carrier, rubboard and vocalist, is a newer member of the band, but brings lots of energy. Chip Etienne, bass, has played with numerous bands around the state of Louisiana. Chip brings a unique groove to the flavor of the band. Along with great entertainment, downtown area businesses will feature special breakfast menu items for sale. People attending the free event are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the entertainment in a relaxed and charming setting in the heart of downtown Opelousas. Held in conjunction with the Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival in Plaisance, the City of Opelousas, who is designated "Zydeco Music Capital of the World", along with Opelousas Main Street hosts the annual downtown event. This year the Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival celebrates its 29th year.
